SPEEDWAY: Cheetahs chief eyes dual plan
Oxford speedway promoter Allen Trump would like to see both Premier League and Conference League action at Cowley next year, writes ROBERT PEASLEY.
Trump, who stepped in to save the Cheetahs after the Elite League team folded in June, has applied for membership to the 2008 Premier League.
But whether the Cheetahs are accepted into the sport's middle tier will not decided until the BSPA Conference at Coventry later this month.
Trump said: "There's no doubt Conference speedway saved Oxford this season.
"Subject to agreement with Oxford Stadium landlords, the GRA, I fully intend to run in both leagues if accepted into the Premier League.
"Every one of our riders wants to stay with the club.
"I'd like to create a seamless progression from Conference to Premier, to enable Oxford to play its part in the development of young British riders like Kyle Hughes and Brendan Johnson.
"Staging both Premier and Conference speedway would help to secure the future of the sport in Oxford, as it helps me present a more attractive package in terms of stadium usage to our landlords.
"Unfortunately, the Conference League by itself just can't produce enough home meetings to keep us going, but a combined package would be ideal.
