SPEEDWAY: Rain fails to dampen spirits
THE final meeting of the season at Oxford fell to the weather on Sunday.
But it failed to dampen promoter Allen Trump's spirits as he looked back on a highly successful first season, or rather half-season, at Cowley.
Trump, alongside director of speedway Peter Oakes, came into Oxford in mid-June, after the previous promotion pulled the plug.
"We started with a rain-off with the original attempt to stage the New Era Trophy and ended with a rain-off with the match against Somerset," he said.
"But I'm very satisfied with what happened in the four months in between.
"To reach the Conference League play-off final exceeded the expectations that Peter Oakes and myself had when we arrived in June.
"I would like to thank everyone connected with Oxford Speedway this season - riders, management, track staff, pits staff, stadium staff - in fact everybody whose hard work and dedication has made the saving and resurrection of this famous club possible.
"I would also like to thank the loyal supporters for their encouragement, through the good times and bad.
"I will never forget the Plymouth play-off semi-final and that very emotional evening.
"It's been quite a first season in charge at Oxford."
