FOOTBALL: Vale Boys in Cup triumph
Vale of White Horse Under 14s completed a double with a 6-0 win over Mid Oxon in the Oxford Times Cup final at Old Woodstock Town.
Having lifted the Vale Cup - which is played on a league basis - a week earlier, Vale finished the season in style.
Vale, who also had a 100 per cent record at the ESFA Isle of Wight Festival, opened the scoring after 15 minutes through Frankie Merola's 40-yard free-kick, which the home keeper could not hold.
Oliver Taylor was quickest to react to a loose ball for No 2, and Merola scored from close range following a corner before half-time.
Ben Whitehead increased the lead early in the second half, before Taylor crashed a shot against the crossbar from 25 yards.
He was not to be denied, though, and added the fifth before Whitehead completed the scoring.
Vale of White Horse Under 15s' (pictured) hopes of ending the season by capturing the Hobbs Cup were shattered by Coventry, who swept to a 5-1 win in the final at Milton United.
Coventry took the lead after 20 minutes through Jake Holt.
And they should have increased it five minutes later when Damien Crudup jumped into the back of an opponent in the penalty area, but Luke Leahy's resulting spot-kick hit a post.
Coventry, who had beaten Oxford 2-1 in the semi-final two days earlier, increased their lead on the hour through Holt's second.
However, a great run by Nick Christodoulou gave Richard Taylor the chance to reduce the arrears.
Almost from the restart, Coventry regained their two-goal advantage through Josh Johal.
And, as Vale heads dropped, Irwin grabbed a late brace to complete victory for Coventry.
Vale of White Horse Under 13s recorded their biggest win of the season with a 5-0 victory against Cheltenham in a season-closing friendly at Letcombe FC.
Vale were stronger and quicker to the ball, and created many chances before Christian Evans put them ahead on 20 minutes.
Aaron Ferris added a second on the stroke of half-time, and Conor Harris sidefooted the third via a post.
Ferris scored No 4 and Evans got his second to seal an emphatic Vale win.
