SCHOOLS' FOOTBALL: Valiant Vale in semi joy
Vale of White Horse Under 15s ran out 3-1 winners over Cheltenham in the Hobbs Cup semi-final at Milton United.
Despite dominating the first half, Vale failed to make the most of their superiority.
Richard Taylor did give them the lead on the half-hour, but a rare Cheltenham attack early in the second half produced the equaliser.
A long throw from Jack McKean found Nick Christodoulou, who spun and volleyed home from 15 yards to restore Vale's lead.
And an excellent run from Christodoulou left Oliver Taylor with a tap-in three minutes later for No 3.
Christodoulou hit the bar, and Vale looked more threatening in the final quarter as they secured a final place against Coventry or Oxford.
VALE of White Horse Under 14s will be looking to continue a proud record when they take part in the ESFA Isle of Wight Festival next week.
The last three Vale sides to travel across the Solent have won all four of their games at the festival.
This time, Vale kick-off against Mid Somerset at Seaview FC on Monday (10.15).
They then face Hyndburn & Ribble Valley at Medina High School on Tuesday (3), Yeovil at Sandown High School on Wednesday (3), before completing their programme against Derby at the Isle of Wight Community Club, Cowes on Thursday (10.15).
VALE of White Horse Under 11s are in action at the ESFA North Tyneside Festival next week.
They face Shepway on Tuesday, Dover on Wednesday, Wallsend on Thursday and hosts North Tyneside on Friday.
KING Alfred's (Wantage) won the Vale of White Horse Under 14 six-a-side tournament at Wantage.
They beat St Birinus (Didcot) 2-0 in the final with goals from Ben Whitehead and Elliot Baldwin.
In the semi-finals, Whitehead's hat-trick gave King Alfred's a 3-1 win over Fitzharrys (Abingdon), who replied through Tom Booker.
St Birinus ran out 3-0 winners over Langtree (Woodcote), with Ryan Tappin (2) and Matthew Burton netting.
