RUGBY UNION: Bicester claim vets cup
Bicester's Chris Nash
Bicester's Chris Nash

Bicester lifted the Oxfordshire Veterans Cup with a hard-fought 16-6 victory over Chinnor at Oxford RFC.

It was 8-0 at half-time, but Chinnor battled back well in the second period.

Bicester took the lead with a Stuart John penalty after centre Chris Nash broke down the middle.

Wing Chris Austin went close before man-of-the-match Dave Brind ploughed over in the corner.

Nash stopped Chinnor flanker Paul Fincken scoring a certain try just after the break before Dave Wells's penalty made it 8-3.

Bicester full back Adam Wade kicked a penalty on the hour mark, but sustained Chinnor pressure saw Wells land a second three-pointer.

Late on, centre Martin Linstrom sent wing Justin Hitchcock over for Bicester's second try.

  • Tries from No 8 William Howard and fly half Jordan Brodley saw Bicester defeat Abingdon in the Oxfordshire Under 14 Plate final.

Howard put Bicester ahead, but it needed a late score from Brodley to seal a 10-0 victory.

  • President's Select won Littlemore's ten-a-side tournament on Saturday, with Rudman's Occasionals claiming the Plate.
