RUGBY UNION: Henley end in defeat

Henley Hawks ended a very disappointing National 2 season with a 38-14 defeat at mid-table Cambridge.

Hawks had plenty of the game, but couldn't take their chances as they crashed to their 19th loss of a campaign that began with promotion hopes.

Two of Henley's best chances fell to wing Danny Wells, while prop Andy Le Chevalier was unlucky to be judged offside when intercepting a home handling move on his 22.

From this, Cambridge's Luke Fielden opened the scoring with a penalty.

A well-executed break saw full back Chris Simmons put Wells clear, but he was stopped inches short and Henley lost control of the ruck.

Cambridge led 17-0 at half-time thanks to tries from fly half James Shanan and flanker Tom Powell with Fielden converting both.

Hawks controlled much of the play after the break and were rewarded with a penalty try, which Jim Farndon converted.

It came when Fielden barged Simmons out of the way as he looked set to touch down his own chip.

Tries from Johannes Lombaard, Tavela Kwilimbe and Stefan Liebbenberg put the result beyond doubt, Fielden converting all three.

Henley lock Gareth Ellis crashed over in the final minute, with Farndon converting.
