RUGBY UNION: Bowers's plan worked
 |
| Jason Bowers |
Chinnor coach Jason Bowers felt they had finally got their tactics right against Oxford Harlequins.
He said: "We have spent a lot of time analysing the previous two matches between the teams.
"We put a plan into practice, which meant they had no space to move the ball.
"James Cathcart had a superb game with the boot and the front five were outstanding.
"We dominated the scrum and that allowed the back row opportunities.
"Our backs were defensively sound and when we can bring players like O'Mahony, Hastings and Baker off the bench, you are always going to be in a strong position."
Oxford Harlequins' director of rugby Matt Maudsley said: "We made too many errors in the first half.
"They made far fewer errors than we did and deserved to win and get promotion.
"We did come back strongly in the second half, it was just a shame we didn't score in that initial period after the break.
"Chinnor were surprisingly calm today. I thought they would be a little bit more anxious.
"I don't think as a team they are much better than us, but I wish them all the best.
"It wasn't our best game and some individuals under-performed.
"We could have won because they didn't play particularly well.
"It would have been nice to give our overseas players a good send off before they head home.
"They have been really good servants for us."
