RUGBY UNION: Henley fans plea
Henley Hawks are hoping to bounce back by becoming the best supported club in National 3 South, according to their latest newsletter.
Relegated Hawks still have two games remaining in what has proved a disastrous season in National 2, but they are urging fans to keep positive about the future.
The message is: "Let's take a leaf out of Bristol, Harlequins and Northampton Saints' book and bounce straight back up.
"They've returned to the Premiership stronger and much the wiser and whilst playing in National 1 their supporters had a ball visiting and hosting a fresh set of clubs.
"While in National 1 they naturally took the mantle of best supported club, home and away.
"So come on all you Hawks fans, let's make sure we emulate them in 3 South."
Henley will also introduce player and coaching staff sponsorship to raise funds next season.
The letter says: "Our target in two or three years time is circa 40 sponsorships at £250 per player, raising £10k.
"For next season however a cut price launch of £150 is the offer."
Bicester will face Chinnor in the Oxfordshire Veterans Cup final next Wenesday at Oxford RFC after beating holders Witney 12-5.
Tries from centre Lee Boulter and No 8 Dave Brind, plus Stuart John's conversion, proved decisive for Bicester, although they felt they could have had more.
Wing Jeremy Winter levelled for Witney before the break, but Brind crashed over three minutes from time.
ANTHONY Lewis was named players' player of the year at Bicester's end of season awards - although they have one match left!
Centre John Rollason won the captain's player of the year award, while prop Will Morris was the most improved player.
Other awards - Bicester RFC Heraldic Shield: Mike Hutchinson (first team manager). Framed team photos: Steve Risbridger (captain) and Anthony Nightingale (vice captain). Press Officer's awards: Mark Malins and Nick Kenny. Captain's awards: Tom Abernethy (touch judge).
