POWER-PACKED: Oxford's Brendon Hobbs goes on the attack against Chris Hanks
POWER-PACKED: Oxford's Brendon Hobbs goes on the attack against Chris Hanks

Featherweight Nicky Miles claimed the boxer of the night award as the Oxford Boxing Academy staged their latest dinner show at the Kassam Stadium.

His determined and unanimous victory - one of a quartet for the organising club - over Finchley's Ozzie Yacoup followed an absorbing four-round clash.

Miles, with more snap in his punches claimed the first two sessions before Yacoup began to rally during the third period.

The outcome was placed on a knife-edge, but the 25 year-old care worker's accuracy in the final minute edged the clash in his favour.

Welterweight Daza Usher delivered the only stoppage of the evening for the host gym - halting Woking rival Christian Costa midway through the second round.

He upended his Surrey opponent with a right uppercut that prompted a mandatory count.

With Costa trapped against the ropes another flurry of unanswered punches prompted the referee to step in and wave it off.

Featherweight Steve Rees delivered the first win of the night for the host gym as he got behind the jab to out work Bedford's Darryl Davidson.

But he had to withstand a game fightback during the middle session before regaining control of the clash by dominating the final round.

Grant McKenna made it two on the trot for the Oxford Boxing Academy as he claimed a unanimous verdict over Bedford's Carl Warner in an often untidy welterweight clash, where the two styles collided.

Billy Osborne had to claw his way back after Cleeve rival Damian Dinwiddy made a lightning start, but the Gloucestershire teenager's more precise combinations in the final period proved decisive in gaining a split decision.

Brendan Hobbs was game and determined, but taller Cheshunt rival made his extra inches tell - imposing a count from a left hook in the final minute to claim all three ringside votes.

Stuart Walford admitted it was a bad day at the office as he succumbed Cheshunt's Alfie Morris - the Oxford man had won the previous encounter between the pair.
