Wheatley's world champion Frances Houghton leads Oxfordshire's challenge at this weekend's World Cup event in Amsterdam.

Houghton is fresh from winning gold in the Camelot-backed British women's quadruple scull at the last World Cup in Linz earlier this month.

Siemens-sponsored Katie Greves, from the GB eight that won a sensational silver a fortnight ago is also in action.

Paul Mattick, of Wallingford, who helped Britain make history by picking up their first world cup medal ever - a bronze - in the lightweight men's four, also sponsored by Siemens, also competes this weekend, too.

Houghton said that the final in Linz "was the kind of race that you dream of".

But she knows that it will get harder as the season progresses with more crews amalgamating and strengthening.

Meanwhile, Henley rower Colin Smith, also made a big impact at Linz, winning gold in the Siemens-backed men's pair in a new Leander club crew with Matt Langridge. They surged from last at the half-way mark to win gold.

CITY of Oxford's junior squad had another successful weekend racing at Marlow and Reading regattas.

The first win at Marlow came from Connie Taylor in the women's junior singles, with Cloudy Carnegie and Annie Robinson winning the women's junior doubles.

Robinson and Carnegie made the final of the women's junior singles, the latter taking the title in a closely-fought race.

Tim Seers won the junior singles and combined with Richard Steele to lift the junior doubles title.

National Schools medallist Holly Holden struck gold in the women's junior singles at the Reading Regatta.
