Oxford United have the greatest possible incentive to go all the way in the play-offs - because the Nationwide Conference confirmed yesterday that the final WILL be at the new Wembley Stadium.

However, United manager Jim Smith offered a cautionary note . . . they've got to get into the play-offs first - and then get through them!

The final will be at Wembley on Sunday May 20 (2pm kick-off), the day after the first FA Cup final at the new stadium.

And Smith said: "It's a great incentive to reach the play-off final, but we've got to be wary because it's also a great incentive for Morecambe, Exeter, York and Burton.

"It is an exciting prospect, of course, and it's a great thing for the Conference, but we've got to get there first.

"We've got to really focus on getting into the play-offs. Then the next step will be to really focus on getting through the semi-final to reach Wembley."

The 20th of the month is a special date for Oxford United because it was on April 20, 1986 that the club made its one and only previous appearance at the old stadium, when they beat QPR 3-0 to win the Milk Cup final.

They took 30,000 that day and the total crowd was 90,396.

The Conference play-off final is likely to attract considerably fewer, probably around 40,000.

Wembley Stadium's managing director, Alex Horne, said: We are delighted that Wembley will be hosting this season's Nationwide Conference play-off final.

"I am sure that the two teams chasing promotion will enjoy the opportunity of playing at the national stadium on the day after it officially opens."

"It is a wonderful reward for the loyal supporters of the Nationwide Conference and will help to raise the profile of the game at this level even further."

The prize for the winners of the final is massive - a place in League Two of the Football League for the following season.
