Andy Burgess has the opportunity to show what he can do again today as Oxford United take on Stevenage Borough bidding to make it three wins in a row.

Identified as one of the most gifted players in the Conference in the first three months of the season, Burgess then lost his place in the team, but gets the chance to make up for lost time because Chris Hargreaves is suspended for one match.

Matt Day is set to replace Barry Quinn, who has a hamstring injury, at right back, but there are not expected to be any other changes to United's starting line-up after victories over Gravesend and Tamworth.

The 3-1 success at The Lamb last Saturday was the first time Oxford had found the net three times in one match for 23 games.

"We want them (Stevenage) to worry about us - and our front two are playing very well at the moment," boss Jim Smith said.

United's manager had words of praise for skipper Phil Gilchrist, who has been showing some outstanding defensive qualities in the last few matches, and who seems to have struck a good centre back partership with loan signing Mickey Corcoran.

And that is despite him needing regular treatment through the week for various injuries.

"That shows Gilly's character - and his leadership qualities," Smith said. "In the games of late, he's been outstanding, both as a defender and as a captain."

Southport face leaders Dagenham today before hosting Oxford on Tuesday, and Smith believes Port's position in the bottom four means they will be scrapping for their lives.

"Southport need points to not drop out of the league, so they'll be giving everything they've got."

Stevenage have one major injury doubt with Adam Miller rated 50-50 because of a knee strain.

Borough boss Mark Stimson will choose between former U's striker Jamie Slabber and ex-St Albans forward Paul Hakim to take over from the suspended Steve Morison up front.
