Palmer turns on style to lift trophy
Joe Palmer captured the Jim Allen Memorial Trophy, beating Nick Cobb 3-2 in a high-quality final.
Former Oxfordshire player Palmer came through his group, beating his Hundred Acres teammate Chris Webb in the first game and then Andy Povey and Simon Tricker to book his semi-final slot.
Jon Jukes took the second, defeating Aaron Stevens, Tony Leone and Graham Manning.
Group 3 was won by Preben Krabben (Shears) with wins over Paul Cross, Mark Stocker and John Fowler, while the fourth group went to Nick Cobb after he defeated Mick Wilkes, Roy Pryor and Phil Addison.
Palmer and Jukes played out five legs of quality darts as the former triumphed 3-2 in a tense semi-final, the other going to Cobb after a 3-0 victory over Krabben.
In the final, first blood went to Cobb against the throw, Palmer hitting back to lead 2-1. Cobb took the fourth to make it all square before Palmer grabbed the final leg with a smart 74 checkout.
The Oxfordshire Youth team continued their excellent form by winning 10-7 away to Berkshire.
The under 18s, unbeaten this season, triumphed 5-4 thanks to wins came from Grant Tizzard, Tom Baughan, Shane Cooper, Kevin Smith and man-of-the-match, 14-year-old Mark Burns (21.78 ave). This win keeps Oxfordshire top of the table by four points with one game to play.
Nicola Slay and lady-of-the-match Ashley Curtis (17.18 ave) gave the under 21 ladies a 2-1 victory
Katie Moore gave a very good performance on her debut for the county despite losing and at 15-years-old looks to have a good future at county level.
The under 21 men, beaten 5-0 by Berkshire earlier in the season, got their revenge 3-2 as Craig Inness, Dan Franzen and man-of-the-match Tim Gore (19.52) triumphed.
