HORSE RACING: Channon sweet on Youmzain bid
Youmzain is in good form in Dubai
Youmzain is in good form in Dubai

West Ilsley trainer Mick Channon is anticipating a bold show from Youmzain in the Dubai Sheema Classic at the end of the month.

The Jaber Abdullah-owned entire enjoyed a highly-profitable campaign last year, despite failing to get his head in front in six outings.

Youmzain found only Dylan Thomas too strong in both the King George VI And Queen Elizabeth Stakes and Longchamp's Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe.

"His form has been solid all the way through," said Channon. "It was amazing before the King George, everyone was saying what a weak race it was.

"But the first and second in the King George then went and finished second in the Arc, so what does it make the Arc?

"Basically he's been a high-class horse and like a lot of good horses he has that kink where he has to be put there at the right time. Richard Hughes gets on well with him.'' Youmzain has reportedly settled in well ahead of his big race at Nad Al Sheba on Saturday week.

Channon added: "He finished third in it last year and he's had a good preparation.

"He did a lovely bit of work there last weekend and he'll work again this weekend. I've been very pleased, everything's gone well.'' Channon also has Majestic Roi, winner of the Sun Chariot Stakes at Newmarket in October, lined up to run on Dubai World Cup night.

"She'll run in the Duty Free so we have a couple of big guns out there,'' Channon added. "This race should suit her as they usually go a good pace and let's hope she can run her race."
