Rover asleep at the start

Rover Oxford Ladies stay tenth in Women's National North Division of the Slazenger England League after losing 3-1 at Ben Rhydding.

They looked somewhat sleepy in the first ten minutes of a wet, blustery cold day in Yorkshire.

However, their game picked up and with some excellent attacking play they were awarded a penalty stroke in the 21st minute, which Laura Smyth cooly slotted home.

However, three minutes before half-time, Ben Rhydding equalised and the home side struck twice in the second half to clinch it.

Oxford Hawks ended their South Clubs' League Division 1 season with a 4-2 defeat at home to South- ampton.

Kathryn Poulter rounded the keeper to put Hawks ahead.

Southampton equalised from their third short corner, and they added another in open play.

Poulter got her second from Amy Bryant's pass, but Southampton regained the lead in a goalmouth scramble and got a brilliant fourth.

Banbury needed a late goal from Natasha Nunneley to grab a point in a 2-2 draw with Wycombe Rye in Div 3A. Ann Glover also scored.

West Witney crashed 5-1 at home to Bracknell and Henley went down 5-0 at unbeaten leaders Teddington.

Hawks 2nd look set to win the Trysports 3 Counties League after they beat Amersham & Chalfont 4-1 in Premier 1, while City 2nd were held again, 1-1 at home by Reading 2nd.

Sue Clark, Sjouke Tolsman, Jill Ireland and Wendy Gundry scored for Hawks, while Mel Baker got City's goal.
