HOCKEY: Mandy to the rescue
Oxford Hawks Ladies fought a rearguard action as they lost 1-0 at Wimbledon in South Clubs' League Division 1.
Hawks never looked like threatening and were camped in their own area.
Some outstanding goalkeeping from Evelyn Hargraves, and three goalline clearances from Mandy Hamilton-Martin kept Wimbledon out.
The home side broke the deadlock after 43 minutes, with a straight strike from a short corner.
In Division 2, Oxford Univ went down 6-2 at home to leaders Buckingham.
Ruth Tuthill gave Banbury the perfect start away to fourth-placed West Hampstead in Division 3A, but the hosts equalised from a melee in a 1-1 draw.
Henley trounced West Witney 8-1.
Hawks 2nd have taken over from City of Oxford at the top of Premier 1 of the Trysports 3 Counties League after a 3-0 win at Wycombe Rye 2nd. Sjouke Tolsma, Lucy Martin and Rachel Young scored.
City were held 2-2 by third-placed Sonning with Tam Curnow and Anna Nicholson on target.
