HOCKEY: Brave fightback proves in vain

Oxford Hawks' second-half fightback wasn't enough to prevent a 3-2 defeat by Harrow in South Clubs' League Division 1 at Banbury Road North.

Harrow raced into a 3-0 lead by half-time.

Hawks pulled a goal back in the second half when Amy Bryant smashed a rebound into the roof of the net after her initial strike was saved.

Bryant's run and pass then set up Kathryn Poulter to fire home a superb strike, but they were unable to force an equaliser.

Banbury thrashed bottom side Newbury & Thatcham 7-1 in Division 3A.

A Natasha Nunnley penalty flick and further goals from Ann Glover, Nicola Park and Lara Wilkinson gave Banbury a 4-0 lead at half-time.

Newbury struck from a penalty flick after the break, but Krissy Flynn notched No 5 for Banbury.

Nunneley added her second, before Bloxham School's Sam Humphries smashed home a shot to seal victory.
