GOLF: Harris succeeded by former pupil
Bob Harris
Bob Harris

Bob Harris has become North Oxford's general manager after spending 20 years as the club's head professional.

Harris, 49, is succeeded by former North Oxford member Lee Jackson, whom he used to teach as a nine-year-old.

Jackson, 34, was head teaching professional at Bicester last year following posts in Buckinghamshire and Switzerland.

Harris said: "The club have already announced exciting plans to improve the course and clubhouse to celebrate our centenary and I am looking forward to playing a part in seeing those plans coming to fruition."

Jackson (right) became North Oxford's junior captain before going on to win the BB&O's Boddington Trophy and was the youngest player to represent the club in the Oxfordshire Foursomes League.

He went on to Frilford Heath, where he achieved a handicap of plus one and turned professional in 1996 under Derek Craik snr.

Jackson qualified as a PGA professional in 1999 and had a three-year spell at Harleyford, near Marlow, Bucks, before taking up teaching appointments at Farnham Park, Bucks and in Switzerland.

North Oxford chairman David Young said: "Both appointments will have a dramatic effect on the changes we are planning."
