Frilford Heath crushed Oxford University 17-1 in the annual Town versus Gown fixture.

Fielding four players off scratch or better, Frilford proved far too strong for the students, who take on Cambridge in the Varsity Match at Hoylake later this month.

Frilford's Ashley Walton and Ben Paterson won the opening foursomes match 3 & 2, but Oxford levelled with captain Michael Canty and Will McPhail winning 5 & 4.

However, this was as good as it got for the visitors.

Frilford's singles wins included captain Nev Davies triumphing 6 & 5, youngster Joe Richardson winning 6 & 4, and a 7 & 6 thrashing for Sean Elliott, who is back after a year playing college golf in America.
