FOOTBALL: Didcot boss Peace lands striker Roach
Didcot Town have signed former Oxford United striker Neville Roach from British Gas Business Southern League rivals Uxbridge.
Reading-born Roach, 29, will link up with Michael Bartley for their forthcoming Division 1 South & West campaign.
Boss Stuart Peace has been a long-time admirer of Roach.
"I chased Roach last season, but was not able to catch him," said Peace.
"But I made a few enquiries and am delighted that he has agreed to come here.
"He's a very experienced striker, with a CV as long as your arm."
Starting his career at Reading, he signed for Southend in 1999.
He was loaned out to Stevenage before he later played in Australia.
On his return, he had spells at Torquay, Stevenage, Basingstoke and Eastleigh from where Oxford signed him on loan.
He later had a spell at Maidenhead United before joining Farnborough where he linked up with Bartley.
Peace added that former Didcot duo Ian Concannon and Bradley Ward would not be returning to the club.
They played in their 9-0 pre-season defeat by Reading.
Peace added: "Conners and Ward were just helping us out, but Neville is definitely joining."
Peace said pre-season prepartaions were going well.
Tomorrow, he plans to field two XIs for their trip to Witney United, with a stronger line-up for the following week's friendly against Bashley.
Banbury United chairman Dave Bennett has stepped down after three years at the helm of the Premier Division club.
No successor has yet been named.
