FOOTBALL: City boss Merritt issues hot-shot alert

Oxford City player-manager Justin Merritt has warned of the danger of former Salisbury City striker Justin Bennett when they host Gosport Borough in British Gas Business Southern League tomorrow.

Bennett, is on loan from Blue Square South outfit Eastleigh, who signed him from Wessex League side Andover after he hit 52 goals for them in one season.

"I don't know much about them," said Merritt, whose Division 1 South & West side are unbeaten in their first five league and cup games.

"But they do have this striker (Bennett) who scored 50-odd goals for Andover, so we have to watch out for him."

Ikechi Anya, Mark Jones, Jon Gardner, James Faulkner are set to return after injury.

Andy Gunn is doubtful with a strained hamstring.

Didcot Town manager Stuart Peace wants his side to display the same resilience they showed against Fleet at home to Farn- borough.

"We had a test against Fleet away," said Peace, whose side are undefeated in their first four games.

"I think they will be there or thereabouts. And we came through that, even though we were 2-0 down, to draw.

"Farnborough want to recover after being knocked out of the FA Cup, while we want the three points."

Farnborough, who boast ex-Didcot striker Ray Spence in their line-up, are expcted to bring around 200 fans, so a lareg crowd is expected.

Didcot will be without Matty Jack (foot) and Scott Davis (ankle), but Andy Parrott and Jack King return.

Matt Bicknell (calf) is doubtful.

Abingdon United manager Andy Slater wants to use their midweek 5-2 FA Cup win against Downton as a springboard to success in the league, starting with the visit to Paulton.

"We did the job in the first half," said Slater.

"They weren't very good, but we did a decent job.

"But it gives us a bit of confidence. And I'm looking for us to keep up our performance against Paulton."

James Organ (ankle) is out, while Julian McCalmon faces a fitness test on a calf injury.

Banbury United travel to Clevedon in the Premier Division.

TOMORROW'S LINE-UPS Oxford C (v Gosport Borough, home): from Tucker, Redknap, Weirich, Gunn, Pond, Saulsbury, Tomes, Malone, McSporran, Faulkner, Davis, Anya, Merritt, Stewart.

Didcot Tn (v Farnborough, home): from Watkins, Goodall, Heapy, Bedwell, Bicknell, Mulvany, Witt, King, Powell, Bartley, Vine, Parrott, M Green, Allen, Elkins, Gooding.
