Oxfordshire stayed on course for promotion to the top flight of the BDO Inter-counties Championship with victory over Dorset at the Lord Nufflield Club, Cowley.

The A teams were the heroes as Oxon had to come from behind for a 23-16 triumph.

It was their seventh success in eight outings this season, but they surrendered the leadership of Division 1 to Surrey.

Nevertheless, they are just one point behind at the top of the table and with one game left to play away to Staffordshire on April 26-27, they could still land the title and secure one of the two promotion spots.

The ladies B lost 4-2, but still remain top of their section, Sandra Cox taking the first game followed by lady of the match Irene Richardson (20.59). Dorset reeled off the next four games.

Oxon's men's B also went down by two, losing 7-5. Wes Topley (25.91) was man of the match, while other wins came from Peter Rouse, Tony Leone, Steve Foster and Les Radford.

So Oxon moved on to Sunday's games trailing 11-7, but their ladies A cut the deficit to two with a 4-2 victory.

Lady of the match Louise Carroll (21.47), Denise Pape, Linda Jones and Rebecca Rose made sure they remain top of their section.

The men's A side put Oxon back in front by capturing seven of the first eight games via Ade Larner, man of the match Kit Young (26.87), Jon Jukes, Ronnie Anderson, Dave Exell, Kevin Wilkins and Roger Haines.

Team manager Nick Cobb's win made sure of the overall victory, and Olly Varney secured the 20th point of the weekend.

Three bonus points made the overall match score 23-16.

Oxon's youth squads to play Middlesex this Sunday at the Lord Nuffield Club are: Under 18s: O Highton (capt), L Bower, M Burns (HJ & CS Pollard), A Stockford, G Tizzard (Plough East Hendred), T Baughan, K Smith (Ambassador Taxis), S Cooper (Cooper Autos), S Pollard, D Lockyer (Time Beaters Ltd), J Lucas.

Under 21 ladies: A Curtis (DRD Roofing Ltd) capt, G Dumper, N Slay (Pete Jones), J Brayne, L Green.

Under 21 men: C Inness (Red Lion Marston) capt, T Tricker, L Purcell, D Spinks, D Franzen, P Hutchings, D Ford (Polenez Hotel Blackpool), M Adams, T Gore.
