AFTER narrowly avoiding a whitewash last week in the Oxfordshire Super League, Shelswell Inn weren't so lucky when they entertained Three Tuns A and managed to win only four legs.

Paul Freeman, Peter Fisher, Steve Foster, Barry Stratford, Pete Newman, Ronnie Anderson, Roger Haines, Phil Addison and Nigel Russell gave the visitors a clean sweep to keep up the pressure on Chinnor at the top.

The leaders had a tricky-looking match at Goodlake Arms but emerged 6-3 victors.

Andy Wood got the hosts off to a good start, beating Bucks county player Craig Cox.

But the visitors then clicked into gear as they took the next five sets through Peter Rouse, Roy Pryor, Alan Syphas, Nick Cobb and Mark Laverack, dropping only one leg between them.

Bob Cook and Richard Carter reduced the arrears for the hosts, before Jon Jukes dispatched Les Radford 3-0 to keep Chinnor six points clear at the top.

Third-placed Shears edged home 5-4 at Shelley Arms, who suffered their fifth defeat on the trot by that score.

Ken Baker took the decider, while Shears' other wins came from Paul Cross, Dave Exell, Simon Davison and Prebben Krabben.

Shelley's winners were Simon Powell, Wes Topley, Tery Wood and Lyndon Richards.

Another last-set decider saw Hundred Acres win at Masons Arms to stay fourth.

Kevin Middleton, Joe Palmer, Chris Webb and Andy Thomas won for Acres, while Mark Batsford clinched overall victory by taking the last set 3-0.

Charlie Buckingham, Ade Larner, Martin Bull and Ade Buckingham were Masons' victors.

White Lion stayed level with Hundred Acres as they triumphed 6-3 at Tuns B to make it six wins in a row.

Keith Bedding, Steve Skelton, Olly Varney, Graham Manning, John Fowler and Paul King wrapped it up for Lion, with Marcos Ferrer, Joe Haines and Mark Burns replying.
