Jamie Hewitt impressed against Cheshire

Oxfordshire may be a little weary when they take the field in Sunday's MCCA Trophy clash with Cumberland at Work- ington.

The Cumbrian town is 285 miles away from Oxford and Oxon's players must travel there tomorrow night after their club matches.

It could well be the early hours of the morning when many arrive, with Oxford's Ian Crosby and Jack Brooks having to drive from league opponents Reading for a 300-mile plus trip.

Oxon captain Ian Hawtin said: "We'll all travel up on Saturday, so it will be a bit of a late one.

"It's a bit difficult that they have made us go all the way up there.

"Peter O'Neill, our secretary, tried to bring it somewhere closer, but that wasn't possible.

"We'll meet up at the hotel as soon as possible."

Oxfordshire make three changes to the side that beat Cheshire so impressively on Sunday.

Northants-contracted teenager Nathan Hawkes comes in for his senior Oxon debut alongside Oxford Downs' batsman Chris Sandbach and Banbury spinner Luke Ryan.

Banbury's Craig Haupt, Oxford's Adam Cook and Paul McMahon (Wollaton) are all unavailable.

Hawtin said: "Nathan expressed an interest in playing for Oxfordshire last year.

"With people unavailable, there is an opportunity for him and hopefully he'll take that.

"We'll be playing him as a batting all-rounder."

Jamie Hewitt will be looking to continue the good form he showed against Cheshire with bat and ball.

Oxon lie second in the table, while basement boys Cumberland have yet to win.

Victory in Workington would put Oxfordshire in a very strong position to qualify for the quarter-finals, particularly if Bedfordshire can beat Shropshire.
