CRICKET: Hubbert is Minster hero

Fifteen-year-old Ashley Hubbert was the hero for Minster Lovell as they started their Division 1 campaign with a six-wicket victory at Westbury on Saturday.

Needing 16 to win from the final over, the youngster smashed two sixes as Minster snuck home with just a ball to spare.

Earlier, Westbury's new signing, New Zealander Ben Rae, hit a magnificent 126 in his side's 230-9.

Bill Bowman (67) and Billy Carter (66no) were Minster's key batsmen, before Hubbert's late heroics.

Charlbury began their season with an 86-run victory over Oxford Caribbean.

Captain Rob Garrett hit 85 in Charlbury's 184 all out, Shimron Thomas taking 5-28.

In reply, Caribbean collapsed to 98 all out, thanks to Craig McCallum's 4-34.

Newly-promoted Letcombe posted a one-wicket victory over Great Horwood.

Putting their visitors in, Letcombe's Richard Taylor took 4-39 in Horwood's 194 all out.

Taylor then starred with the bat, hitting 95 not out as Letcombe snuck home.

Hyron Shallow continued where he left off last season as his 91 steered Tetsworth to a 101-run victory at Shriv- enham.

Del Cyrus (72) helped Tetsworth to 229 all out, despite 5-35 from James Crowder.

In reply, Shrivenham collapsed to 128 all out, Rolando Wright taking 4-25 and Rommel Foster 4-29.

East Oxford thumped Eynsham by 155 runs in Division 2.

Tauqeer Hussain scored 85 and Sarfraz Hussain 55 in East Oxford's 271-7.

Tauqeer and Mohammed Sarfraz then took three wickets apiece as Eynsham slumped to 116 all out.

Watlington beat Marsh Gibbon by two wickets in a low-scoring match.

Ollie Jeacock's 71 helped Marsh Gibbon to 128-9, Nick Adby taking 4-29.

Watlington reached the target with eight wickets down, Chris Allen scoring 32.

Freeland began their campaign with a six-wicket win at East & West Hendred.

Andy Warren and Kevin Hole took three wickets apiece as Hendred were bowled out for 141.

David Ackland (60no) steered Freeland home, Sam Walker chipping in with 39 not out.

Kings Sutton were docked three overs for late arrival, but scrambled home to a one-wicket victory off the final ball at Garsington.

The home side managed only 120-9 from their 45 overs, Asif Shah scoring 30.

Kings Sutton lost wickets regularly, but Lee Humphrey (44) saw them home.

Danny Harding hit 72 as Chadlington began with a two-wicket victory at Cass- ington.

The home side were dismissed for 136, before Harding saw Chadlington home, despite 5-17 from Vaughan Roberts.

Swinbrook lost by four wickets at Great Horwood 2nd.

Batting first, Swinbrook reached 149-7, Rob Grant hitting 31.

But Gary Lee (41no) and Darren Sirett (31) saw Horwood to victory.

Dorchester made it two wins out of two in Division 6 as they beat Hanney by six wickets.

Thom Airs took 4-18 as Hanney were shot out for 81, before Ali Line (36no) saw Dorchester to victory.

Chesterton defeated Stanton Harcourt by 47 runs, despite an amazing burst by youngster Elliott Graham.

Graham took four wickets in ten balls as Chesterton were bowled out for 140, but Stanton fell to 93 all out.

Robin Hanks and Kevin Sherbourne took five wickets each to inspire Stonesfield 2nd to a 74-run victory over Marsh Gibbon 2nd.

Marsh Gibbon were dismissed for 72 with Sher- bourne taking 5-13 and Hanks 5-24.

Steve Masters (33) steered Stonesfield home at 146-8.

Wantage posted 166-9 on a damp wicket, as they beat Steventon by 65 runs.

Barry Martin top-scored with 51, while under 15 Ryan Gordon fell just short of a half century on 45.

Joe Braham (3-14) and Tom Pill (3-32) then combined as Steventon were bowled out for 101.

In Division 8, Garsington 2nd began their campaign with a 22-run victory at Kennington 2nd.

Garsington posted 201-9, Zubair Shafique top-scoring with 48.

Kennington were restricted to 179-6 in reply, Andy Bradford taking 3-52.
