The highlight of the 2004 OTCCL season was the performance of the club's
3rd XI that has won them promotion for the second time in as many seasons.
Stuart Helps' side, a mixture of experience and promising youngsters,
performed with aplomb and are to be rewarded by playing in division seven
in 2005.
Town's New Zealand 'A' player, Jeetan Patel, became the first player since
Ian Pont in 1984 to take fifty league wickets in a season for the club.
Patel left straight for Black Caps' 'A' tour of South Africa at the end
of the season.
At the end of season awards night, James Gear won the Saturday 1st XI
Player of the Year and shared the award with Dom Pritchard for Sundays.
Jonny Cater won Young Player of the Year. The 2nd XI Player of the Year
went to Nick Board, while Russell Thompson and Dom Pritchard shared the
3rd XI award.
Bob Hutt won the Clubman of the Year award after another year of hard
work.
Off the field the club has reaped the rewards for their efforts with a
£57k facility improvements package.
The first part of the ground upgrade has taken place with half of the
square being relaid, along with a new synthetic match pitch. Two new synthetic
practice pitches have also been installed, while new grass nets have been
laid to give the club a total of five practice bays. In total there has
been £45k's worth of improvements.
The clubhouse has been received a £12k upgrade to accommodate the
Buckingham Pre School Playgroup.
There are plans being made to purchase wicket covers at some stage during
2005.
There has been a relationship started with the Buckingham School, who
have just received Sports College status, which could be beneficial in
years to come.
