AUNT SALLY: Green's 15 dolls can't save Swan

Dave Green smashed off 15 dolls, including two sixes in his first two throws, for Black Swan against Littlemore British Legion in Section 2 - but still ended up on the losing side, writes ANDY BEAL.

Legion won the opening leg 22-17, with Black Swan levelling in the second 23-19. Legion took the deciding leg 27-22.

Mark Buckland was in outstanding form as he clanged off 14 dolls (4-4-6) for Plough in their 2-1 win at Gardiner Arms.

But they had to do it the hard way, coming from behind after losing the first leg 23-19. They drew level in the second, taking it on three sticks after tying 22-22.

Plough set 24 in the final leg, which was enough as Gardiner fell three dolls short.

There were four sixes scored in the Premier clash between White House and Garsington Sports.

White House won the first leg 32-23, Sports bouncing back to take the second 31-21.

In the final leg, White House set an impressive 30, but with Roger Goodall and Tom Recht clanging off sixes, Sports anchor man Trevor Greenaway needed only three dolls to win the leg, which he duly did with a stick to spare.

Steve Ward top-scored for White House with 15 dolls (5-6-4), with Greenaway the other six-hitter.

Three Pigeons slayed Gladiators with an impressive 3-0 victory. Pete Dempsey led the way with 14 dolls (5-5-4), while Neil Lyons and Roger Dell both hit 13 for Pigeons as they ran out winners 29-21, 30-23, 30-25.

Red Lion Garsington came away from Black Horse with a hard-fought 2-1 win in a thrilling Section 6 game played in just the right spirit.

Black Horse bagged the first leg 14-12, Lion levelled 21-17 and were set a score of 16 in the final leg.

Lion's anchor man Bryn Hyde whipped off the three dolls needed to take it to a three-stick shoot-out which also ended in a tie.

The one stick shoot-out could not separate them, so it had to go back to six sticks before the Lion emerged victorious. Dean Ridgeway threw well for Black Horse with a dozen dolls (5-5-2).

Black Swan's John Curran added another six to his belt in his 11 dolls as they took maximum points at home to White Hart in Section 8, winning 14-10, 14-11, 11-8.

Vikings C hit a steady 17-17-17 in their clash against leaders Star, but it was not enough as they passed each score with 22-19-23. Alan Major was top dog with ten dolls.

Jon Dunhill was the hero for Fairview B as they beat Black Boy 2-1 in Section 9.

Fairview won the first leg 22-17 and were set 19 in the second. Dunhill was left needing five to win the leg, but went one better and whipped off all six dolls to clinch the win. Black Boy gained a point by taking the last leg 15-12.

Nelson B's Richard Poore was in outstanding form with 13 dolls (4-4-5), but still ended up on the losing side as they went down 2-1 at Masons Arms in Section 10.

Nelson lost the first leg on three sticks after tying 14-14 and were pipped 14-12 in the second, before coming back well to take the final leg 18-13.

There was some high scoring in Section 12 as leaders Six Bells lost at Somerset House.

Six Bells set 20 in the first leg, which would normally be enough, but Somerset upset the form book and responded with 22.

Six Bells levelled in the second 15-11, but Somerset took overall victory by winning the last leg 18-13. Barry Blackman top-scored for Somerset with 11 (3-4-4).
