AUNT SALLY: Queen's Head block out Sun

8:00am Wednesday 11th July 2007

Queen's Head B held their nerve as they sealed to a 2-1 victory against Royal Sun in Section 2, writes ANDY BEAL.

And they did it the hard way, having to fight back from a leg down before securing victory via two nerve-jangling three-stick shoot- outs.

In a hard-fought clash, Royal Sun edged to a 18-17 win in the first leg.

Chasing 18 in the second, Queens Head's anchorman, Pete Shepherd, knocked off the four dolls to set up a three- stick shoot-out, which they won to level.

Royal Sun's anchorman Adrian Lewis whipped off the three dolls necessary to force the game into a thrilling three-stick shoot-out finale after Queen's Head had set 18. Queen then did it again to seal their success.

Kevin Giles kept up his consistent form with a 14-doll haul for George in their 2-1 victory against Gladiators Club in the Premier Division.

Teammate Dave Sawyer also hit a sixer.

George won the first two legs 26-17 and 23-21, before Gladiators restored some pride and grabbed a point with a 27-25 win in the last.

In Section 2, Paul Holt clanged off a baker's dozen, including a six as he helped Gardeners Arms to a 2-1 away win at Black Swan.

Gardeners set the first leg with 25, which seemed enough as Swan replied with only 14 from their first six players, leaving their last two to get 12.

Tony O'Brien whipped off five dolls and anchorman Dave Green hit a six to send the leg into a three-stick shoot-out, which Swan won.

But Gardeners won the remaining legs 21-17, 24-17.

Steve Reeves hit a 12 for Vikings B as they beat Red Lion Garsington 2-1 in Section 3.

Vikings took the opener leg 20-16, only to lose the second 16-15.

They set the final leg with 17, which was just enough as Lion fell two dolls short.

Prince Of Wales's Andy Lovegrove had a mixed night in their 2-1 win at Cowley Workers.

After failing to trouble the doll in their 18-12 win, he then hit a three in the next, which they lost 17-16, before whipping off a six in the last in which they triumphed 13-9.

Pete Kennet clanged off a six in his ten, but could not stop Quarry Gate B losing 2-1 at home to Lord Kitchener in Section 5.

Kitchener took the first two legs 19-17, 15-13, but lost the final 13-11.

Doug Sealey clanged off a baker's dozen for Rose Hill Dwarfs as they beat Cowley Con Club 2-1.

Winning the opener 19-14, they lost the next 23-21, before taking the last 21-18.
