  • ABINGDON Amblers made a strong start to their Southern League Division 3 West campaign as they finished second at Woking.

They were beaten only by a strong Plymouth team, and for a side fielding a number of newcomers, there were some impressive performances.

James Wright stole the show, leaping 12.60m to win the triple jump.

Other notable performances came from Paul Jennings and Steve Pomeroy, who competed in all four of the throwing events.

Luke Chown also made a valuable contribution by picking up victories in both the 100m and 200m.
