Smith is set to be honoured at No 10

Jim Smith, the Oxford United director and former manager, is to be inducted into the 'Show Racism The Red Card's Hall of Fame'.

Along with around 20 others, he will be inducted at a special ceremony at 10 Downing Street on May 12.

Smith, who only last year stepped down after 35 years in management, said he was delighted to be able to help out the anti-racism organisation.

"Show Racism the Red Card has been around for a very long time," he said. "It's quite nice to be asked to get involved to help promote their campaign.

"One of the great things about sport is that there are no barriers, it gives black and white players and athletes the same opportunities."

Show Racism The Red Card is an anti-racist charity established in January 1996 with the aim of using professional footballers as anti-racist models.

Among those already in the hall of fame are Sir Bobby Robson, Dave Bassett, Graham Taylor, Craig Brown, Gary Lineker, John Barnes, Thierry Henry, Rio Ferdinand, Les Ferdinand, Brendon Batson and Kieron Dyer.

Smith added: "It will be nice to visit 10 Downing Street, but I'm really not sure whether Gordon Brown will be there, as has been reported."

LUKE Foster's knee injury does not appear to be as bad as first feared.

The Oxford United defender, who had to be helped off at Ebbsfleet on Saturday, had a scan at the Nuffield Hospital on Monrday, and the results should be known within 48 hours.
