OXFORD United's final pre-season friendly this summer will be against local rivals Cheltenham Town.

The venue hasn't been confirmed, but it seems likely to be at the Kassam Stadium where United have traditionally finished off their programme of pre-season games.

It will take place on Saturday, August 2, a week before the new season.

Cheltenham are 19th in League One, and need to win one of their last two games to guarantee staying above Gillingham to avoid relegation.

Darren Patterson is well under way with his plans for pre-season, and United's directors and he have been in advanced talks over the possible July trip to Guinea to play the west African country's national team.

Hardly a sexy fixture.

I reckon a 978 crowd.

And an even more irrelevant scoreline

It doesn't need to be a 'sexy' fixture. it has to be a challenging match in preparation for the season. I am sure both teams will take the match seriously as it will be close to the start of the season, players will be battling for a place in the starting 11 and is a local derby.

It's a more representative match than player a Premier league team who will run around at half pace.

Ha ha ha Lord Nelson, you think its not sexy for you? Why should we play crap non-league teams like yourselves? Its a waste of our time.

Cheltenhams hardly a top draw fixture, but its a game that would suit both teams preparation for the new season. More to the point when are we going to know if the Guinea games on or not, as will be needing to organise flights etc
