Arsonists are thought to have targeted a house in Faringdon on the weekend, police said today.

Police are appealing for witnesses following a blaze at a property in Pusey, near Faringdon, on Saturday morning.

Investigating officer Dc Rob Underhill said it was lucky nobody was in the house at the time of the fire, which caused hundreds of thousands of pounds worth of damage.

While officers were investigating the fire they also discovered a detached garage at the property had been burgled.

A red lawn mower and a yellow and black blower were stolen.

Dc Underhill said: "The fire is being treated as suspicious and I'd like to make a direct appeal to anyone who may have any information about this arson to contact me.

"I'm also appealing for anyone who may have seen any suspicious activity in the area of have any information in relation to the stolen property to get in touch."

Anyone with any information about the incident is asked to contact Dc Rob Underhill on 08458 505505 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
