Reservoir consultation starts

Public consultation has opened on controversial proposals to build a massive reservoir between Abingdon and Wantage.

Thames Water today published its Water Resources Management Plan, which describes the Oxfordshire reservoir as essential to meet demand for water in the region in the future.

Customers and residents affected by the proposals are being urged to look at the full report, aimed at introducing initiatives to cope with increased water demand.

The report is available at thameswaterconsult.co.uk.

Thames Water said interested parties had 16 weeks to feed back their comments on the proposals.

I think they should concrete it over and build multi storey car parks.

The current system of water supply involves expensive collection, storage & distribution, leakage loss of 35%, and use of 90% the balance for flushing toilets. This is insane, and hence destroying 4 square miles of Oxfordshire to perpetuate this system is equally insane. Every building should have local rainwater storage, used for everything but drinking. Demand for mains water would plummet, and the need for this reservoir would disappear.
