A toddler who police thought was dead after falling into the Thames is actually still alive, although in a critical condition.

The 18-month-old girl fell into the river at Goring in the south of the county at 9.45am today.

She was rescued from the water and airlifted to the John Radcliffe Hospital and medics thought she was dead.

However she had a very faint heartbeat and police have retracted their statement confirming her death this afternoon.

Her mother and her other child were also taken to the hospital as a precautionary measure.

Police are continuing to monitor the scene of the accident.
