Wallingford School is on the up - and its improvements have been given the official stamp of approval in its latest Ofsted report, which classed the school as good with outstanding features.

Head Wyll Willis said: "Our aim is for the outstanding accolade - the highest we can get - and we're on our way to achieving it.

"Exam results have improved and we're looking for even better this year.

"There is a new ethos in the school, a better co-operation with the community and with other local schools."

In 2004, the school achieved 'good' status, but under the rules at the time, 'good' ran third to 'excellent' and 'very good'.

The current 'good' status is second on the list, just below outstanding.

Ofsted inspector Peter Sanderson said: "Wallingford School is a good school which has developed apace in recent years. Both students and parents are supportive. The headteacher and senior staff lead the school extremely well.

"They have maintained a clear focus on improving standards of attainment and students' personal development and this vision has been effectively shared with the staff."

Mr Sanderson praised Mr Willis.

He said: "He has been particularly effective and successful in managing an inherited deficit budget which he has reduced."

Mr Sanderson said the school had been asked to ensure all lessons contained interesting activities.
