Lemonheads gig cancelled... but Truck date still on

A much-anticipated warm-up concert for this weekend's Truck Festival has been cancelled - because its headline star is still in America.

The show featuring The Lemonheads, was due to take place at the Bullingdon, in Cowley Road, Oxford, tonight.

But the gig has been cancelled because the band's Frontman Evan Dando is still at the airport in New York.

Mr Dando is expected to arrive in the morning, and festival organisers say he will be at the site in Steventon in time for his headline set.

Up to 6,000 people are expected at Hill farm for the festival, which will see sets by more than 50 bands, artists, comedians and other performers.

As well as the Lemonheads, the festival will feature sets by former Spacemen 3 legend Sonic Boom; singer-songwriters Frank turner and get Cape, Wear Cape, Fly; 90s rave act Altern8 and Oxford bands Little Fish, Stornoway and Borderville.

Also appearing are re-formed 90s band Dodgy, and Danny & the Champions of the World - starring Truck organisers Joe and Robin Bennett - who were also due to play at the Bullingdon tonight.

This weekend will be the 11th annual Truck Festival. The event is named in honour of its stage - mounted on a flat-bed truck.

Robin Bennett said: "Tonight's concert in Oxford is off because Evan is still at the airport. But he will definitely be at the festival tomorrow."

He added: "Everyone is looking forward to the festival.

"The site looks great and we have got our new stage, which is amazing - though, of course, it is still a truck!"

He said weekend tickets were still available on the gate, and a few day tickets for Sunday.

Truck Festival takes place tomorrow and Sunday at Hill farm, Steventon. Tickets are £40 for a day, or £70 for the weekend, on the gate. But get there early. It is likely to sell out.
