Gold-winning rower James Cracknell
Gold-winning rower James Cracknell

A budding young sports reporter is set to win the opportunity of a lifetime and be a reporter at the Olympic Games in Beijing.

Newsquest, the parent company of the Oxford Mail, has teamed up with McDonald's, the official Beijing 2008 Olympic Games sponsor, to offer this amazing prize.

Rower James Cracknell, double Olympic gold medallist and McDonald's Director of Olympic Sports, is leading the search for a Champion Kid to report directly from the world's biggest sporting event.

This is an amazing opportunity for one of our young readers whose reports, pictures, even videos will be published online for the world to view.

The winning youngster - who must be aged between 10-14 years old - and a parent/guardian will be invited to be guests of McDonald's in Beijing.

The youngster will attend Beijing 2008 Olympic Games events take part in a sightseeing tour of Beijing plus they will experience exclusive behind-the-scenes action.

But the prize package starts before Beijing, because the winning McDonald's Champion Kid will also be invited to attend exclusive Olympic Games themed activities in Britain, including the chance to meet James Cracknell.

Mr Cracknell said: "We're looking for children who are passionate about sport and journalism.

"What better way to combine the two than through the McDonald's Champion Kids competition where they will experience and report on the amazing Olympic Games?"

For your chance to be the Champion Kid, you just need to tell us, in no more than 150 words about your favourite Olympic event, moment or athlete.

Go to oxfordmail.co.uk/whatson/competition to enter. The competition closes on Friday, May 16.
