Drivers fined in speed checks

Police caught 37 speeding drivers in two hours during stop-checks in an Oxfordshire village.

The operation was held in B4017 High Street, in Steventon, between 8am and 10am today.

They stopped 37 speeding drivers. Ten were fined £60 and given three points on their licence for driving over 40mph.

Safety advice was given to 27 drivers caught between 30mph and 40mph, who avoided a fine or penalty points.

Four more drivers were given £60 fines for driving while using a mobile phone and six were fined £30 for not wearing a seatbelt.

One car was seized by police for not having valid insurance.

The road checks were held after complaints from residents, and based on collision statistics, a police spokesman said.

ho ho ho, yet again the muppets are out. we see these reports every week and they always seem to catch 30-40 in 2 hours. the mobile phone and seatbelt offences, whilst dealt with under the current laws, should both result in a court appearance on a ban. both these laws are wildly publicised, and people have no excuse for ignoring them. the driver of the car with no insurance has paid the ultimate penalty, and this show you cannot hide from the police national computer.
