OAP suffers burns in boat fire
A pensioner suffered "extensive burns" after a powerboat caught fire on the River Thames.
The 67-year-old man leapt into the river at Northmoor, near Bablockhythe Caravan Park, in an attempt to avoid the fire at about 2.30am today.
He was pulled to safety by passers-by.
A spokesman for the ambulance service said the man was taken to hospital with extensive burns to his back and arms.
Four fire crews and the air ambulance were also called to the incident.
A spokesman for the fire service said the man hurled a petroleum gas canister into the water to prevent the boat, which sank, from exploding.
The fire is not thought to be suspicious.
