Meet the Miss Oxford Mail finalists
Chantal Murray
Chantal Murray

These young women are the lucky seven who have been chosen for the final of the Miss Oxford Mail competition.

Tomorrow, the seven women, chosen from an original shortlist of 34, are being invited to the Oxford Mail offices for a final interview with our judging panel.

At the end of the judging process, the winner will be crowned Miss Oxford, and it is hoped that the former Miss Oxford, Eleanor Glynn, will present the winner with her crown.

The seven finalists are: Zara Faulkes, 18, from Abingdon, Suzanne Ball, 22, from Eynsham, Lyndsay Fayle, 16, from Denchworth, near Wantage, Pascale Watkins, 18, from Kidlington, Shenna McGuinness, 22, from Carterton, Megan Convey, 19, from Banbury, and Chantal Murray, 22, from Headington, Oxford.

Miss Ball, who works as a personal assistant at an IT solutions company, said: "I'm thrilled to get through to the final seven.

"I'm looking forward to having a chat with the other girls again - all my friends and family are keeping their fingers crossed for me."

Miss Murray added: "I went away to Cornwall for a couple of days and when I got back there was an email saying I had been chosen for the final seven - I never expected to get this far.

"I'll be taking a day off work tomorrow and now I'm going out to choose my swimsuit."

After 20 contestants were selected to go through to the next stage from the original shortlist of 34, votelines were opened so that members of the public could vote for their favourites.

The public vote counted for a third of the judging, alongside judging from the Miss England office and the Oxford Mail.

Miss England organiser Angie Beasley said the final seven was a strong line-up and it would be difficult to choose the winner.

She added: "At first we were going to have five finalists, but three girls tied for fifth place so we decided to allow seven girls to compete in the final judging round.

"We have asked the girls to bring their swimsuits with them because there is a swimwear round in the Miss England final."

Ms Beasley said a winner would be chosen, with two women selected for second and third place, so that they could step into Miss Oxford's shoes if she couldn't make it to the Miss England final in Docklands, London, on July 18.

Ms Beasley added: "This is the last chance for the girls to impress the judges in the Miss Oxford Mail competition and at this stage it is anyone's title - they're strong contenders."

The winner of Miss Oxford Mail will get a day at a Champneys health resort of her choice and all seven finalists will receive gift bags from Champneys, and make-up and skincare products from Helen E.

We both agreed that she is very pretty but i think the Miss Oxford Mail needs to show safistication but with a normal side, not a posh side to her. She matches the criteria.

Chantal is pretty hot and I'm sure she'll do well even though she's up against girls a lot younger. And she can take heart in the fact that one of the favorites for miss england is a size sixteen.

Strange, there was a guy at school with me called Pascale Watkins. He went off to Thailand for a while. We always thought him a little effeminate.

It's all personal taste of course, but Chantal is my favourite. She's gorgeous!

If Chelsea Clinton was in it she'd win hands down, she is sooooo hot, just like her mum.

Anyone But Zara, i dont think she has potential, shes not attractive.
Posted by: biffabacon on 2:20pm Mon 21 Apr 08
I think Zara Phillips should go in for it. She looks a bit like a horse but is still hotter than some of these entrants.

I know you Molly Walls, ok, Zara may not be all that attractive but compared to you, you look like my parrot. You fell out of the ugly tree and broke every branch on the way down you jealous cow.

I think suzanne has a touch of class, I mean the whole orange face dropping down into a white belly, really does it for me!! Think she should consider a new applicator of fake tan! And maybe hook up with Dale Winton or David Dickinson! Brunettes for me anyday! I read in the paper that a lot of these girls just like clubbing and don't have much about them! Not exactly giving Oxford it's intellectual image! Although I did see one was studying law, fair play!

Hey Zac, I think you'll find it's Giggity! Giggity! Kindest regards, Glen

Give the girls a break least they have the guts for trying and people obviously are voting for them. I think Zara should win, She has true beauty and a pretty smile.
Posted by: markymark, Oxford on 9:20am Tue 22 Apr 08
EVA is obviously Zara in disguise or a friend of hers - "True Beauty"?!?! Very obviously trying to play the game! People aren't stupid! And Pascale will never win with her bitchiness on her Facebook profile! I think this is all pathetic, I bet in the Mens competition they don't all **** about each other!
Posted by: tara, oxford on 12:02pm Tue 22 Apr 08
i dont think any of the last 7 have miss england potential there are alot of pretty girls in oxford shame they did'nt apply, but these girls did so fair play to them i no zara personaly and think her head will go from big to bigger nice girl but i think she will get big headed, pascale seems really bitchy and and dont deserve to win! suzanne is pretty and chantel but none of them will win miss england and nore will that plus size girl thats just how it is..

Congrats to Chantal.

Judging by the comments left on here, its lucky that none of them have entered. Why cant you just leave all the girls alone and stop **** about them. I have experience of Miss England and think that only a couple of these girls should be in the final 7- Zara is one of them. She has a lovely smile, and is a very pretty girl.( and no, i,m not her mum before all the **** starts). It always amazes me why other people get jealous over this- is it because they know they have no chance themselves?
Zara to win--and I dont even know her.
Leave the girls alone.

Thanks for the nice comments, I came straight from work at 6pm to have that awful picture taken and it didn't do me justice at all.

Anyway, well done to all the girls, the day was really nice and we all got on really well. It's been a really nice day overall, I got flowers, champagne and some spa gifts, so anyway, good luck to Lyndsay with the final!

I Think That Zara Is A Clear Winner. She's Intellegent, Funny, A Great Dancer, A Good Friend & Not Afraid To Stand Up For What She Believes In..x

I'm pretty happy Pascale didn't win it, i've seen her facebook and the comments made about the other contestants were really bitchy. With behaviour like that she would never have represented Oxford in a good light in Miss England. It's a shame a lot of the girls who enter competitions like this get carried away and **** about the other contestants.
I think Lyndsay was a worthy winner, although i thought Suzanne would win it. And i say that completely unbiased, none of the girls that got into the final 7 i personally know.
