Cheap shots

In response to Roger Tucker's cheap attack on John Prescott and his admission to being bulimic (Oxford Mail, April 28), I would strongly suggest that he takes time out to read about this condition. Mr Prescott made public in his book that he does indeed suffer from this condition and should be applauded for making this known.

City input on traffic vital

Developers have been given permission to knock down workshop buildings in Cherwell Street, St Clement's, Oxford (Oxford Mail, April 21). The proposal is to build homes on the site. Cherwell Street is at its full capacity with cars - cars park on yellow lines at night.

For every request for increased spending on services, such as county councillor Barbara Gatehouse's letter (Oxford Mail, April 24) claiming that adult social care will be underfunded in future years, I get another letter from people saying that council tax is too high and is causing hardship to people on lower incomes or living on their pensions.

I have recently been discharged from Ward F at the Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre at Headington, Oxford, following an operation for a total knee replacement.

It is good news that people with low incomes may get back some of what they lost with the abolition of the 10p tax rate.
