I'll fight on
I would like to thank all the people who voted for me in the Marston and Old Marston ward in the Oxford City Council election. I stood as an Independent candidate and polled 457 votes.
Unfortunately I did not win. I came third behind the Labour Party and the Liberal Democrats, but I was in front of the Conservative and Green parties.
I shall continue to fight for issues in this area for the coming year.

Ah the power of democracy. Don't be too sad that you weren't elected-noone that's surprised-after all that's the only reason you stood as an independent-because none of main parties would have you stand with them. If I were you, I'd find something useful and interesting to do-instead of trying of nit-picking against each and every issue that you don't like. eg parked cars, mobile phone masts etc etc-GET A LIFE MAN

A totally unwarranted attack on someone who is trying to make a difference. Tell us, Bob what positive impacts the 'local' councillors have achieved for Marston.

They've made more difference than Haines could ever make-that's why people like you voted them in. Thisis the power of democracy-if you don't like them-vote them out next time. Remember you dont have to necessary live in a Ward to make a difference to the area. Haines just wants to get hiomself in the Oxford Mail-and rather than create a positive impact-he stands in the way of progress eg mobile phone masts. He only speaks for himself-if he was as popular as you're making out-he would have been elected-wouldn't he? Ask yourself why he stood as an independent.

Please highlight were I stated popularity levels but if you want to debate the point, many councillors are voted in due to being a member of a certain party rather than for their indviduality. Why don't you ask Mr Haines why he stands as an independent?
"They've made more difference than Haines could ever make" - again, please specify some of these great differences achieved. All I see in Marston is decay. The place is becomeing more of an eyesore each day.

The best example will be Clinton Pugh-who is developing what's left of The Friar Pub-by the time he's finished-the area will no longer be an eyesore. He doesnt live in Marston. The British Legion Club was re-opened in Hadow ROad-and is fast becoming a hub of entertainment. The Jack Russell has been done out-etc etc

The Friar has been sold to Tesco, so I don't think Mr Pugh will be involved. I wouldn't class The Friar as an eyesore and it should be restored to a pub.
The local councillors raised many objections which delayed the new RBL clubhouse and added to the costs. The Jack Russell is improving which is due to the efforts of the new incumbents and I wish Nigel & family every success but why are you avoiding answering the question of what the local councillors have done for Marston?

Clinton Pugh is involved in The Friar redevelopment not Tesco's. Are you telling me that you don't regard a boarded-up pub as an eyesore?!?!?

At it stands it has not yet fallen into disrepair, it needs to be re-opened before it does. I would regard the properties either side of the pub as eyesores as well as the verges, kerbs, footpaths, cyclepaths, etc which have been destroyed in Marston by illegally placed vehicles. There is no enforcement of existing laws / by-laws and that is down to the councils - I am still waiting (from you) for examples of positive impacts that the current mob have made to Marston. Why is the area allowed to decay at the current rate? Why is there no enforcement? Why are even simple tasks such as mowing the verges and playing fields not undertaken?
