Sermon Close play area in Risinghurst was officially saved from redevelopment last night by Oxford City Council.
Councillors voted to to finance a refurbishment programme, rather than sell the land to developers Home Group to build six three-bedroom houses on the site.
The news follows the Oxford Mail's report on Tuesday confirming the council will be spending £2.5 million on play areas across the city.
