Environmental campaigner 'The Ant' has pitched his tent at the site of threatened Radley Lakes and called it 'Camp Kylie' in honour of the pop superstar.

He said energy company nPower's plan to dump fuel ash from Didcot power station in the lakes was "appalling", and said he hoped to enlist Kylie Minogue in his bid to save the site.

His tent is pitched outside Sandles House, from which protesting squatters were evicted last week.

The eco-warrior said: "I had the fortune to met Kylie. She is one of the most beautiful persons I have ever met.

"She is beautiful - like Thrupp Lake.

"I have contacts with Kylie's band and we want to get a message through and invite her here to see for herself what we are fighting for."

The Ant, 40, who works in a vegan restaurant in Southend, said he supported himself on protests through a small bequest from an aunt. He said he had spent the last seven years travelling the country, joining different crusades against airport runways, bypasses and building developments.

His speciality is building tunnels and bunkers and other "defences" to obstruct bailiffs.

He said he had an engineering and electrical background. He built an underground tunnel and bunker at the lakeside house but was not inside when the bailiffs arrived in the early hours of the morning on Tuesday last week to evict the squatters.

He added: "The support we have had from local people has been wonderful.

"It supports my personal crusade in life, which is to save the environment from destruction.

"We could be in for a long campaign to protect Thrupp Lake."

On one hand 'Ant' says he works in a Vegan resturant in Southend, on the other he admids to being a professional protestor against anything and everything??? Lets hope we get some serious artic conditions for the next few weeks then.

So Alan can't tell his artic from his arctic! Ant had to deal with both in the last week. From A Lorry delivering Equipment to the hated NPower Operatives and Ice, Snow and Freezing Temperatures during his initial stand, when he spent two nights just sat on a chair with no protection. How long would the comfy self-satisfied Alan last if he left his cosy armchair and spent several nights camped out in the freezing weather for his beliefs. He wouldn't even attempt it. Long on Rhetoric Short on Action. Ant has tried to publicise the Lakes in the hope that the wider population will get to know about it. Some other have camped out there to keep him company and give him support They have the courage of their convictions too. They hold down jobs but have given up a night in a cosy bed to support a young man who has ideals and a cause worth fighting for!

Guess What - NPower have served an injunction on the Oxford Mail and Times and are trying to stop any of the original protesters, and strangely a Campaigner who was involved with Saving the Open Air Swimming Pool from taking photographs of NPower's Goons and NPower's operatives whilst they are working at Thrupp Lake. Gestapo Bully Boy Tactics from a Company that is now running scared of the publicity being generated by their heinous intentions.
What is Derek Holmes going to do now? Perhaps he should stop that nonsense competition that NPower are sponsoring in the Abingdon Herald and use the space to say why. Trying to gag the press is what they are attempting. Perhaps I should go to the High Court and get an injunction to stop the Goons filming me and my car when I visit Thrupp Lane.
This attitude by NPower just shows how spiteful and vicious they are.

Hi Alan,
It worries me that you feel so hostile towards people who protest peacefully. You would not have many of the rights and freedoms we all take for granted if people hadn't put their lives on the line in the past to win them.

Why not cut Ant some slack and admit that he's a very brave and principled young man, not hurting anyone except the bully boys at RWE npower. If more young people were like him, the UK would be a much more pleasant place to live.
