Two Oxford students received death threats after lining up the chairman of the British National Party to appear on their university radio show.

Plans to have Nick Griffin on Oxford University Student Union's Oxide Radio have since been scrapped.

He was due to appear on The Big Idea show today to talk about 'Britishness', but the students' union has pulled the plug on it.

The union has a policy which prevents its services being used by the BNP and the National Front to promote their views.

he two presenters of the show, James Macadam, a geography student, and Max Seddon, a 19-year-old history and Russian student, both received handwritten death threats, delivered to their college pigeonholes, as well as e-mails.

Mr Seddon said: "We didn't really take the threats seriously and they would not have stopped us from doing the interview, but we were told by the union that if we did, we would be taken off air.

"We are not fascists or supporters of the BNP. We thought Mr Griffin would make an interesting guest. We have had left-wing extremists on the show before, like George Galloway, so thought we could have right-wing extremists too."

Station controller Paul Arrich said despite the pressure the two presenters had still been happy to carry out the interview.

He said: "They did receive death threats which caused a great deal of concern, but I understand this had not fazed them.

"They thought he would be an interesting guest."

There were also threats that the students' union building from where the show is broadcast would be stormed by protesters, despite Mr Griffin being

scheduled to give a phone interview.

Plans for the show have since been axed by the students' union, which runs the radio station and has the right to censor content.

Mr Arrich added: "The union decided to pull the plug on Mr Griffin. I didn't agree with this, but there is nothing we could do, as we are funded by them. It's a sad episode."

Ed Mayne, the union's vice-president of finance, said: "All activities are governed by the students' union.

"Two years ago, a vote was taken on whether we should allow the BNP and the National Front to use our services and facilities as a platform for their views.

"The outcome of that was 'no'. That was a democratically-taken decision. We have to abide by those policies."

Why doesn't the Uni authorities intervene to stop these gutless left-fascist bullies from intimidating students. I expect many in the student body would have been interested in Mr. Griffin's views and would have liked to learn what he has to say.

For too long now Uni authorities have backed down in the face of the fascist left - it's about time they stamped down on these thugs in the interest of the rights of the majority. Universities are supposed to be centres of learning not of censorship through (empty) threat of violence.

Likewise I hope the police are leaving no stone unturned in seeking out these "plasi" terrorists from whichever stone they may have slip back under!

This crime will not be investigated with the same vigour as had the boot been on the other foot. Threats to people speaking the truth are totally acceptable if the truth does not fit in with Labour's idealogical politically forced beliefs. No platform for the truth! it's too scary.

These people will have left a 'footprint' somewhere, and so, eventually, can be dealt with when we get a 'British Government' in this country. Wish they'd threatened me (69 years old ex National Serviceman)... I'd 'empty their closets' rather quickly.

Democracy is not subject to an individual or an organisation's approval and subject to their terms - either we have it or we don't.
If the BNP win seats at the ballot box by pitching their case successfully, then that is democracy in action. If they do not win seats after pitching their case, then that, too, is democracy in action.
These bullies are the epitome of what they claim to be objecting to. Shame on them.

The Students Union has a policy which prevents its services being used by the BNP ? What strange, distorted version of democracy is it that applies censorship to the only party representing the culture, traditional values and rights of the native majority, and whose increasing electoral success reflects widespread support throughout the country; while allowing groups like Unite Against Fascism which exist only to promote violent confrontation, never stand in elections, and represent only the marxist fringe, are permitted to do so ?
And what sort of
impression does one receive of the moral fibre of the student membership when an interview with the BNP chairman on its radio station is hastily cancelled because of 'death threats' from the same type of Leftist thugs ? How wrong. And how pathetic.

As an Australian of British descent and an avid student of politics I have been watching developments in the UK in amazement for some time now. I find it sad that the land of my ancestors has declined into circumstances that would have seemed laughable if suggested 20 years ago. The UK is falling apart, the public are clearly not satisfied with where things are heading and are increasingly voting BNP. They are doing so because they no longer feel represented by the three main parties (Lib-Lab-Con), they are being drawn to the BNP because they feel it represents them more accurately than the big three. Yet still Nick Griffin and other spokespersons for the BNP are forbidden the opportunity to publicly air their views due to threats of intimidation and violence against anyone who provides such a platform as exemplified with Oxford University Radio. In my opinion, Nick Griffin should have as much right as any other leader or spokesperson of a political organisation to speak freely and openly, and to debate with whomever desires the challenge.

More left-wing bias. Our Universities are run by feminism which brainwashes young British girls to go have a "career" instead of getting married, being wives and mothers.

Political correctness is nothing more than cultural marxism being used to destroy Britain from within.

The feminists want to destroy Britain because they hate the white man for "opressing them", even though white men treat their women the best out of any race.

VOTE BNP AND TAKE BRITAIN BACK. BRITAIN FOR THE BRITISH.

What a shame the interview was censored: Nick Griffin and the BNP have reaped publicity from the suggestion that OUSU are scared to let Oxford students hear extremist fools on radio.

If they'd had him on the show he'd have just been an isolated and irrelevant figure spouting nonsense down a phoneline.

Free speech should apply to everyone, no matter how ridiculous we hold their opinions to be. Censoring extremist political discussions only gives them credibility which they'd have destroyed themselves the second Mr. Griffin opened his mouth. "No platform" policies are typical of well-meaning twaddle that actually helps foster extremist groups.

Paul - Indeed, I think they've been sent here to comment. But let them! I think their posts are a good advertisement for why censoring them would be doing them a service!

Paul is right - it's suspicious how many people from outside Oxfordshire have commented on this story. Strikes me there is an organised BNP write-in campaign on this one.

OUSU is completely within its rights to decide not to provide air-time to fascists. Grffin has plenty of other opportunities to air his views, which are imcompatible with the the time of harmonious international atmosphere that a university should provide. To date, with this loony left-wing government we have so had to endure - worse housing and higher house prices, worse hospitals and longer waiting lists, worse schools, worse drug crime and streets threatened by ex-convicts that should be locked up in prisons that are now full of imported immigrants and our schools full of children that cannot speak English. Labours manifesto said a "firm control of immigration", then they changed it to "managed migration", then to "if you're ready to work and there's work for you to do, you're welcome here". My postman has a degree in engineering, but said he took his present job because he can earn more money as a 'postman'. So much for a degree!

I agree with DK, London. But he's mistaken thinking these execrable creeps, such as Unite Against Fascism don't stand in elections. They certainly do, under the guise of a Respect Party that desperately embraces the new (old in fact) Marxust alliance with Islam. They are part of a continuum of rottenness running from the top of New Labour, through the sadly depleted ranks of the trade unions, and into council chambers throughout the Land. The whole corrupt enterprise, a tangled web of deceit and lies, supported by state enforced multiculturalism and political correctness--from the hordes of hired professiomals, and even unto the last council refuse collector or 'loo' attendant.

DISCRIMINATION at it's very worst. Who in power will do anything about it. NO ONE. Why, because the discrimination is not targetted against immigrants but against those who would CONTROL immigration. I suspect there is no way that restraints would have been placed on anyone deemed to be of ethnic origins or non-christian. Those placing such restraints would be too afraid to incur the wrath of their Government masters. It is indeed very interesting to see the usual insults against the BNP trotted out without a single atempt to deal with the issue at hand.

Should death threats and "No Platform" policies backed up by violence be a reasonable part of mature political debate?

The BNP was founded 25 or so years ago as a fairly nasty organisation, but as they reform themselves more and the country continues to decline, I hate to say it but I may even be tempted to vote for them!

If the BNP win votes without violence then they have just as much right to speak as the Greens or UKIP.

If the Far left cannot get themselves out of the years of the hammer and sickle and move on, then perhaps its time for a "No Platform" policy towards them?

Interesting quote about the word "racist" I found sounds good to me "Google it and study"

The word Racist was first used in print in the early 1930's in Germany by Magnus Hershfeld,
a Jewish, homosexual, communist. The stated purpose of the word was to intimidate westerners (Whites)
out of the political process. This removing of Whites from the political debate was to accomodate the plans of Antonio Gramsci,
an Italian communist leader, who had devised the plan of destroying the west by multiculturism and diversity.
There is no such thing as a racist. The word racist is nothing more than a Marxist perjorative.

Congratulations to the Oxford Mail for reporting this disgraceful attack on OUR freedom. People have the RIGHT to hear all sides of the argument and make up their own minds. Anyone who has attended University knows that the "Union" for most students is a place to listen to bands and get cheap drinks. Those who vote for such banning orders turn into those who control the wider media and "big" political parties and in both cases are in fact a tiny and very unrepresentative minority. This is exactly why they stifle free exchange of ideas.
To all would be journalists this is a lesson learnt, broadcast first! Then claim ignorance of repressive rules after if you have to. You are the future champions of freedom and you must give everyone who does not promote violence a fair shake if democracy is to mean more than choosing which colour rosette the next Blair clone will be wearing.

Subject: Paper Share Certificates & Nominee Share Accounts
Date: 02 November 2005 16:52

Dear Mr Plaskitt,
When we held share certificates in paper form, if we wanted to do a Stock Transfer of Paper Certificates from husband to wife or vice versa, it was carried out FOC.
After reading in the newspapers that the government was encouraging people to transfer paper certificates into nominee accounts and that they were eventually going to make paper certificates obsolete, we transferred our portfolios to a broker into nominee accounts - separate accounts for us both.
We recently asked the broker to transfer some of the smaller holding into one account, but was told by the broker that there would be a charge of £11.75 per company.
As it was carried out FOC with paper certificates before.
Could you let me know why we are now expected to pay for this and for it be known publicly, that if shares are held in nominee accounts, the free service that we had before is now chargeable?
Can something be done about this anomaly?
Thank you,
Yours sincerely,
George & Pauline Sullivan

I find the Oxford Student Radio to be rather amusing. Was it not the Oxford Union that had Sir Oswald Mosley to visit and debate in the mid 1930's and again several times in the mid 1960's? Sadly most student bodies are controlled by that tiny unrepresentive minority who are the fanatics with no other interests than endless committee meetings. Thus an alian minority in thrall asiatic communism imposes their will majority. Sounds a bit like party politics in the UK. I get very worried when free speech gets censored. I worry about what this government has done to our country. When you look at the news on TV and see all those people suffering in Iraq knowing that it was based on an untruth. I do not believe a word this government says and we need free speech in order to question things they say and do. I do not want to be brainwashed by this government.
This country could end up in a civil war just like Iraq and no decent person would want that regardless of race. Please do not stop free speech as this would give the government the freedom to do what ever it wants with us regardless of our safety. Please do not forget that Blair and his family do not have to worry about their safety they are surrounded by bodyguards and drive around in very strong vehicles, unlike the ordinary people of this country. Students often used to demonstrated for the rights of people but I am so shocked to see that they are now the ones who would have our free speech taken from us, something that is very important to us all.

Marxism, which has been allowed to festure undisturbed in Britain since the mid fifties by its founders within the labour party, Anuran Bevan, Harold Wilson, and Hugh gaitskill to name but just a few, would have carried on with its final solution, to wilfully and methodically destroy Britain and its white inhabitants who have lived there in there ancestral lands for over 3,000 years.

The Criminal Left has had its day, its patently obvious to all now that behind the liberal and cosmopolitan veneer which they parade behind, are a bunch of extremists **** bent on eradicating freedom of expression from our shores (unless it happens to be their own). Sadly the teaching profession was infiltrated by these Svengalis many years ago, with the result that many of our graduates didnt receive quite the education that their parents may have expected. Britain is a fractured country, war has been declared upon us whether we choose to bury our heads in the sand or not..I personally dont need a prime minister to inform me of this. The BNP are the only political party that have strived to inform the people that things are going very wrong, despite personal persecution from a very frightened establishment, and for that they have earned the respect of thinking Britons. They are the glimmer of light in a sea of darkness, the resistance in an occupied country. To turn them away is indeed foolish and reprehensible, as no-one else has the good of the country at heart.
