Election: IWCA leader hangs on
Stuart Craft
Stuart Craft

The Independent Working Class Association have seen their number halve after a disastrous night at the polls.

High profile city councillors Lee Cole and Claire Kent both lost their seats to Labour, in Blackbird Leys and Churchill respectively.

Mr Cole lost to Val Smith, the wife of Labour's Oxford East MP Andrew, while Mrs Kent lost her seat to newcomer Mark Lygo who said he was "surprised by the margin of victory."

IWCA leader Stuart Craft managed to hold on to his Northfield Brook seat - but tensions between the two parties were evident as he refused to shake the hand of Labour candidate Richard Stevens as the result was declared.

The IWCA's other seat in Northfield Brook, held by Jane Lacey, was not up for election.
