Mischief making at The Living Room

Certain mischief makers, who shall remain nameless, were quick to point out the apparent laziness of Conservative councillors in holding a photoshoot last week at The Living Room (a trendy bar which is just a stone's throw from County Hall).

CyclinG is safer than non-cyclists think. Statistics usually measure accidents per mile. Motor vehicles travel further than bikes and so seem safer. Bikes are no more dangerous per journey. But cyclists do need to watch out for trucks.

I've had my worst week's cycling for ages - I mentioned in a previous column that I'm pregnant and am therefore terribly forgetful at the moment. This week, I managed to lose my entire set of bike lock keys, so I couldn't unlock any of the bikes I have access to.

I WAS in a black cab returning from the vet with a spayed bitch on my lap, wishing I had a bike trailer to tow the dog in. We were discussing the roads, as you do. The cabbie was no happier than I am about the fact that private hire vehicles - minicabs - will soon be allowed to use Oxford's bus lanes. He predicted a lot more accidents. I didn't disagree.

He was probably in his early 20s, heading to the city centre aboard the Thornhill park-and-ride shuttle, a large musical instrument case wedged between his legs.
