AS A contractor with Consignia, I have had the added advantage of seeing all points of view regarding our deteriorating mail system.
A lot has been said in recent weeks about the management of the organisation and it is going to have to have some radical ideas and a change in attitude and style if it wants to keep the Post Office in the position of being recognised as the best Post Office in the world.
It is not only the management which is going to have to change its ways.
The union and the workforce it represents need to change, too.
The Communications Workers Union should be looking to work in partnership with the management to drive the business forward into the 21st Century and not look at every opportunity to fight the changes which need to happen.
As for us, the customers, we are also going to have to accept change
We need to recognise that some commercial decisions need to be made which might effect the service we currently get.
Like stopping the second delivery.
Postmen up and down the country are out completing a whole round on a second delivery with a handful of letters.
This is not effective. A better use of this time would be spent sorting mail and improving the accuracy of deliveries.
Let's not all forget we still have the best postal service in the world but if it is to remain we all need to accept change.
