The ETH Oxford Hackathon!

The University of Oxford in collaboration with the blockchain startup incubator HomeDao brought an exciting opportunity to Blockchain enthusiasts!

The ETH Oxford Hackathon, a 3-day in-person event hosted by HomeDAO took place from  March 8th to 11th, 2024 at the University of Oxford’s Mathematical institute. The ETH Hackathon is a pivotal part of the Oxford Blockchain Week, a week-long celebration of blockchain technology. The Hackthon involved around 500 people, from seasoned web3 developers to those just stepping into the blockchain space.
Many came from all around the world, including Singapore, France and Colombia. Representatives from top universities such as Harvard, Stanford, Cambridge and of course Oxford were also in attendance. Everyone had the opportunity to partake in engaging workshops, inspiring keynote speeches, intense hacking sessions and networking opportunities.

Along with this, multiple fun activities took place such as spike ball, 5 a-side football and a super smash bros tournament! In addition, complimentary food such as Spanish Paella and Brazilian BBQ were offered.

I was lucky enough to go to the Maths Institute myself and find out more about this event. There were hundreds of keen engineers with shared passion for Blockchain technology and building new things. So many took part in the activities and workshops throughout the day.

The competitions and tournaments asked engineers to create innovative products using blockchain technology. There were 5 main prizes for 5 different applications of blockchain technology to solve daily problems. In addition, 15 technology companies sponsored specific prizes for the best teams with solutions to their corporate challenges.

One of the key events after the busy day on Sunday was the Brazilian barbecue organised by one of the sponsors: Tagus Capital. The Brazilian BBQ was a definite highlight for me as there was great attendance from different engineers, the food was incredible and the atmosphere of everyone sharing a similar passion unbelievable.

This event was an amazing opportunity: you could establish valuable partnerships and gain advice from experts. I had such an enjoyable weekend finding out more about Blockchain Engineering and getting to know the geniuses behind its development.
