The English Touring Opera will be coming to the Oxford Playhouse as part of its Spring 2024 tour circuit.
The venue will host productions of Manon Lescaut and The Rake’s Progress on April 9 and April 10 respectively.
Puccini’s Manon Lescaut presents a narrative focused on a woman's struggle with society's double standards.
This new addition to The English Touring Opera's repertoire is directed by Jude Christian and conducted by music director, Gerry Cornelius.
The leading lady, Jenny Stafford, is accompanied by Gareth Morris, Aidan Edwards and Edward Hawkins.
Stravinsky’s The Rake’s Progress, a tale of inheritance leading to downfall, is a new production within the tour.
Directed by Polly Graham and conducted by Jack Sheen, it features Frederick Jones, Nazan Fikret, Jerome Knox and Lauren Young.
The tour also features The Great Stink, the second children's opera in The English Touring Opera’s trilogy focused on climate change and the environment.
Set during the Great Stink of 1858, it will be an interactive show that aims to educate and entertain.
It has been written by Hannah Khalil and composed by Omar Shahryar and will tour theatres, libraries and museums across the country.
